Population Then and NowLocated in the heart of the Mesa Verde region, Montezuma County, Colorado, is home to tens of thousands of archaeological sites—the majority of them Pueblo. The population of the county in the year 2000 was approximately 24,000, about the same as the estimated population of Pueblo Indians living in the area during the mid–A.D. 1200s.
