PROVENIENCE DATA
Field Data

All excavated or surface-collected areas of a site are assigned PD (provenience designation) numbers, which uniquely identify specific horizontal and vertical locations at the site. The following provenience data are available in this section of the database:

• study unit type and number
• subdivisions within a study unit
• feature type and number
• subdivisions within a feature

The provenience data are supplemented by the following information, which provides important details about field methods and deposit types:

• excavation method
• collection method
• fill assemblage position
• fill assemblage type
