ABOUT THIS STRUCTURE
General Location Central portion of site.
Specific Location East-central portion of Block 200; exposed in Backhoe Trench 240; in fill within depression created by collapse of Structure 241.
Interpretive Type Shrine.
Structure Use Because this structure is dry-laid (possibly constructed with mortar, see Masonry Unit form), contained no prepared surfaces or features, and was unroofed, the use of the structure is unknown. Members of the Native American Advisory Team interpreted this type of construction as a shrine, although it is not circular like the other possible shrines at Shields Pueblo.
Dating
Abandonment Structure 242 was abandoned in the late Pueblo III period, immediately prior to regional abandonment.
Postabandonment Natural sediments accumulated within and above Structure 242; the upper portions were disturbed by plowing.
