Aztec Ruins National Monument

Lori is the Supervisory Archaeologist for Aztec Ruins National Monument and Chaco Culture National Historical Park since July 2020. Prior to that, she was the archaeologist and curator for Aztec Ruins National Monument beginning in 2009. Most of her career is in archaeology, however, she has been in the private sector working for CRM companies and running her own business focused on pottery analysis. She received a Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology from University of North Carolina, Charlotte in 1985 and a Master’s degree in Anthropology from New Mexico State University, Las Cruces in 1989. Her Master’s Thesis was focused on Rio Grande glaze ware pottery from sites in the Galisteo Basin. Lori worked on several large CRM projects conducting survey and excavation in the Jornada Mogollon and Mimbres regions through the late 80s as she completed her Master’s research. After moving to the Farmington area in 1989, she worked on survey and ceramic analysis for Fruitland Coal Gas projects and was the ceramic lab director for the large El Paso Natural Gas Pipeline project. Beginning in 1995, Lori founded Animas Ceramic Consulting and spent the next 13 years subcontracting ceramic analysis for various archaeological projects throughout the greater Southwest, gaining further expertise in Ancestral Pueblo, Mimbres Mogollon, Jornada Mogollon, Navajo, Ute, and Rio Grande region pottery. Since 2009, she has worked for the National Park Service continuing her research into Ancestral Pueblo pottery and Chacoan culture.
